Rochester opens first state-licensed cannabis dispensary in 4/20 celebration – 13WHAM-TV

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Across Rochester, people celebrated 4/20, an unofficial cannabis holiday at several local dispensaries.

BACKGROUND: City of Rochester’s first state-licensed cannabis dispensary opens

On Saturday, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans officially welcomed Good Life Collective: the city’s very first licensed cannabis dispensary.

“What it means for the city of Rochester is great economic and development opportunities and that is what today is all about,” said Evans. “Today is not only about celebrating the opportunities of this dispensary but all the ancillary products that will come for it.”

There, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony, visitors saw a wide selection for various cannabis products. The ceremony was held on the occasion of 4/20, an unofficial cannabis holiday.

“For people in the cannabis industry, this is our holiday,” said Ryan Martin, owner of MJ Dispensary in Henrietta. “It should be reserved in the future, probably it will be but everyone knows if you’re a cannabis enthusiast you’ll find your cannabis that day.”

Martin’s business held another 4/20 sales event, complete with a food truck for customers.

“All the things here are from NYS growers and cultivators and you can be proud knowing the tax revenue here will help the community right here in Henrietta,” added
