Parents voice concerns over PTO partnership with dispensary – Fox Baltimore

Some Watershed Public Charter School parents voiced concerns Friday about a fundraiser held by the Watershed PTO.

In a post on social media, Watershed PTO announced they were partnering with Kip Cannabis Dispensary for the fundraiser, where a portion of proceeds from certain purchases would be donated to the Watershed PTO.

“We want to support in any way we can to the community,” said Matthew Hersh, the General Manager for Kip Cannabis Dispensary. “This was an opportunity we got and we wanted to give back.”

“As long as it is legal, in my opinion, should be able to go toward children and supporting the education system,” he added.

In comments online, some parents said they felt it was the wrong type of fundraiser for a school group to be participating in. Other parents commented and said they felt it was sending the wrong message or was a bad image for the school.

One parent emailed FOX45 and said they felt it was “inappropriate.”

“I feel like its a shame that people who don’t utilize these products feel so strongly that it’s a bad look,” Hersh added.
