ATLANTIC CITY — City native and Army veteran Ed Wilson says he is opening the city and state’s first 100% Black-owned, veteran-owned cannabis dispensary, Bakin’ Bad, on April 20.

The site at 2834 Atlantic Ave. took Wilson, who also coaches football and owns another Atlantic City business called Swapz AC, a little over two years to open after all the proper permitting and inspections were done.

“So we were thinking about names, and I didn’t want to get too far away from bakery. Then somebody said, ‘I want to be like Heisenberg, just the legal version,’” Wilson, 37, said Tuesday as he unveiled Bakin’ Bad for the first time to the public and members of the cannabis industry. “One of my partners said Bakin’ Bad instead of ‘Breaking Bad,’ and we just had an a-ha, eureka moment. We all agreed at that time that this is the one. That’s the name.”

Wilson served 12 years as an Army medic, with 51 months of combat time in Afghanistan and Iraq, and retired as a disabled veteran. Afterward he opened a shoe and clothing boutique called Swapz in Washington, D.C., in 2015.
