A Georgia man is facing multiple charges following a Thursday traffic stop in Marianna.
According to police, Jason Lavonne Swilley, 46, of Lithonia, Georgia, is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude; resisting an officer without violence; possessing marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a daycare; and driving while license is suspended (knowingly).
The Marianna Police Department reports that just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white BMW X3, for a speeding violation on Penn Avenue.
Police say that after officers activated their emergency lights on South Street, the BMW sped up and began to flee, but officers pursued the BMW as it traveled along the streets of Eva Mae, Oak, Booker and Cedar, before stopping on Washington Street. There, authorities say, the BMW driver, later identified as Swilley, got out and fled on foot. Officers chased him across Orange Street and into a wooded lot, before they were able to apprehend Swilley without incident.
