A routine traffic stop Thursday along I-85 led Troup County deputies to a more than $1 million drug bust, officials said.
A tractor-trailer with 151 pounds of marijuana inside was stopped near mile marker 23 in Troup County after the driver failed to stop at a weigh station, Troup sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said.
Driver Amaury Izquierdo Mansito and passenger Marco Alfaro are both facing drug trafficking charges, Smith said.
Because deputies believe the drugs have a street value of $1.6 million, customs, border protection and homeland security officials were contacted.
